SRI LANKA NORTHERN PENINSULA FLASH FLOOD RELIEF PROJECT BY - IESL QATAR CHAPTER - 1^st March' 2019

According to the news, on 25^th December 2018, over 75,000 people belonging to 22,823 families have been affected by the recent flash floods in the Northern Peninsula of Sri Lanka. Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu were worse affected districts due to the flood. Therefore, IESL – Qatar Chapter decided to extend its usual generous supporting hands toward victims of flood as its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project. After proper evaluation, it was decided to fund for a smart classroom with necessary equipment in Kn/ Thadduvankoddy Kannaki Amman Vidyalayam. This project was identified through Kilinochchi Rotary Club president Rtn. Mahalingam Pathmanathan and Vadakkin IESL Chapter Chairman Eng. Sivaharan, who was introduced by Eng. K.P.I.U. Dharmpala Council member, Vice President of IESL. Cost of the smart class room was Rs 366,150 whuch was installed by by M/S John Keels Office Automation (PVT) Ltd.

The school is situated near Elephant pass, downstream of Iranaimadu tank, which was affected by the recent flood for which students have to go by cart track from A9 main road. This school is lacking of school amenities and resourceful school societies. The project was handled by Kilinochchi Rotary Club and witnessed by IESL – Qatar Chapter Ex Excom Eng. Ranjith and Vadakkin chapter Chairman Eng. Sivaharan.

After the successful implementation of the project, opening ceremony of the smart classroom was held on 1^st of March 2019. The event was presided by the principal of the Kn/ Thadduvankoddy Kannaki Amman Vidyalayam Mrs. Ganeshalingam. Chief Guest of the event was zonal educational director of Kilinochchi zone, Mr. T. Johnqueentras and the special guests were Eng. Ranjith, Eng, Sivaharan, Eng. Thirukumar and Mr Pathmanathan (President of Rotary club Kilinochchi). We thank our member’s generous hands and our Ex Excom Eng. Mathivanan who initiated this project.
